Lived In & Loved – Royce Ancheta from Royce Interiors

This month we chat with Royce Ancheta from Royce Interiors. He shares how Royce Interiors started and how his love of photography led him to find love.

Tell us about Royce Interiors and what you do

@royce.interiors started as a new year's resolution to use my camera more. It was a creative outlet for me during the onset of the pandemic, especially during lockdown. I started showing the light, bright and airy spaces of our tiny apartment. I just share how I style my home and the things I love.

Your Instagram page showcases a beautiful palette of neutrals with the occasional pop of colour – what attracts you to this colour scheme?

I have always been drawn to neutrals. The love affair started when I first travelled to Japan and witnessed the amazing way they style a space – so neutral with pops of colour, yet so organic that it just exudes serenity. I love how effortless and timeless it looks. It’s also easy to add that pop of colour when I feel a mood lift. I see it as a beautiful textured canvas that I can add personality to.

What’s your favourite part of your bedroom?

This is a tricky one as I really love the entire room, but if I had to choose it would be the soft light filtering through the sheer curtains, striking my bed linen.

How do you relax and unwind?

I have a variety of rituals to relax and unwind, including a hot bath, hinoki essential oil on the diffuser, skincare – but a fresh cup of delicately-brewed French earl grey tea with soy milk and some light reading do wonders. Just thinking about it is so comforting. Also a good online shopping browse.

How do you create a work/life balance?

I work in hospitality during the night, so once I get home I leave everything behind – uniforms, emotions and worries of the day. No emails to reply to or think about. And on my weekends, I love strolling the shops and looking at pretty and inspiring things.

How have you styled Idaho from our Platinum Collection – and why were you drawn to it?

Oh the beautiful texture of this piece is just stunning, so I opted for a minimal, laidback, relaxed sanctuary reminiscent of a holiday. Think Greece, Rome, the Mediterranean. I was drawn to the texture of the quilt cover and how versatile it is. It can be paired with a lot of my styling pieces. Idaho will surely be loved for years to come.

What’s your lived-in and loved item – can you tell us why it’s so important to you?

My lived-in and loved item is my trusty Pentax K3 Limited Silver Edition Camera. It's such a special part of my life because I was photographing flowers on the street when my wife and I first met. She spoke to me, interested in the camera I was using – such a conversation starter! It has travelled countless times to Japan with us ever since. It accompanied us on our honeymoon in Europe a few years back and has captured my earlier portrait, wedding and event works also.

Can you share a bedroom styling tip?

Cosy it up; add layers through cushions, throws, fresh florals or foliage. Add character to your space by adding your own unique spin to a style. The most important advice of all is to have fun doing it. There's no point styling any space without having fun with it.
